For many years our delicious local Fig Preserves were made by the newely retired owner of the Café Atlantic, Ruth Toth. Using only local figs from our small village of Ocracoke, Ruth prepared wonderfully sweet preserves. Now that she has retired from cooking commercially she has passed on the tradition of making Zillie’s Fig Preserves to Debbie Wells, the founder and original owner of Back Porch Restaurant. Continuing the tradition of making Preserves from only Ocracoke Figs, Debbie creates the famous spread that we here at Zillie’s love so much!
